Another GyakuSai pic February 15, 2009

Here is another Gyakuten Saiban pic I accidentally found while browsing through the net.

Gyakuten Saiban Not Game

Gyakuten Saiban Not Game

From left: Lotta, Phoenix, Edgeworth, Gumshoe, Larry Butz and Maya.

Of this lot, I liked Larry the most, because the resemblance is good. I didn’t recognize Lotta at all. I thought it was a director or something. It was Dards who told me it was Lotta.

Phoenix looks like a tomboy, Miles too girly. Gumshoe? What happened to Gumshoe? I know his salary is only peanuts and he can only eat instant ramen all the time — but this is ridiculous! He is too thin, too short — and that coat is oversized.

Great Maya costume. Too bad the makeup artist was a little heavy-handed with the blush and she ended up with clown cheeks! Unless that was the intention in the first place. See, there’s MAC 187 for putting on blush. It would’ve been useful in this case :)

They should make a Jdorama instead! Starring my own cast!

Phoenix Wright fantasy live-action: I’m on a roll! October 10, 2008

Too many late nights at work has its benefits, after all. These past 2 weeks have been hell at work for me and the London team; the earliest I get home is 12 midnight. But because I spend so much time awake, I was able to ‘cast’ more people for my fantasy PW line-up. Nyahahaha. I’m really taking this waaaay too seriously.

Morgan Fey – OK, she is the mother of Pearl. Haha. Every time I read that, I want to laugh. Mother of Pearl. Anyway, for the role of Morgan Fey, I originally thought of Fujiwara Norika for reasons I still can’t understand. Maybe it’s the not-so-kind stare, her cold aura. But she’s too young to be a mother of Pearl (hekhek) and a mother of…someone who is not as young as Pearl. Older than Pearl. Then it hit me: why not Natsuki Mari. She might be familiar to some as “Catherine” from Nobuta. You know, that Vice Principal with the cackling laugh? Or Kitou-sensei in the Iryuu TV series. Looks a bit like a witch. Has the ability to sound like one too.

Yanni Yogi – I won’t go into Yogi’s history anymore, lest I spoil the game for people who haven’t played Phoenix Wright DS (seriously, what are you doing with your Nintendo DS, anyway??). Below is how he looks and if you put some hair on Takenaka Naoto’s head, he can be very convincing as Yogi. People might remember him as Milch/Stressemann in the Nodame Cantabile live action series, but I think he looks the part and he can dress the part of Yogi. Is it just me, or does he look sleazy in this pic? Or maybe he really does look sleazy naturally. Sleazy, slimy Yanni Yogi. Ick.

Larry Butz – When something smells, it’s usually the Butz; and when you need someone who looks like he smells, your choice is usually Morita Go. Hehehe. I picked him for the role because it looks very easy for him to play a wacky character like Larry. His acting is always effortless, whether he is playing a serious character (Lunch no Joou) or a goofy one (Kuitan). He is a little older than my Phoenix and Miles versions but I don’t think that is a big issue.

My fantasy Phoenix Wright live action line-up September 30, 2008

Whew, that was a mouthful! Haha! Anyway, since the news about the Gyakuten Saiban/Phoenix Wright musical came out, I’ve been scouring my favorite Japanese online news sites for character pictures but it seems as if they have only decided on Tomu Ranju as Phoenix Wright.

Last night, I remembered that my Wyatt colleagues used to play fantasy NBA at work. While I never really understood that game, I thought maybe I can make my own fantasy team — Gyakuten Saiban version!!! Not that I wanted GyakuSai to appear as live action; I still prefer my Edgeworth as an anime character. :P But I just thought it would be fun to do, so there. As I thought, it is difficult to find someone to play Miles Edgeworth!!! Whoever he is, he’d better be ‘Edgeworth’ it!! (Ok, that was too corny…but I couldn’t help it)

Mia Fey – The easiest, surprisingly, was Mia. I chose actress Shinohara Ryoko for her fresh aura. She is mature enough, yet retains that youthful exuberance that Mia is known for. I can see her exerting cool authority over her protege Phoenix.

  Shinohara Ryoko

I must admit Shinohara-san wasn’t the first person to come to mind — it was Nakama Yukie, who did a lawyer role before for the series Shimane no Bengoshi (Lawyer from Shimane), then my all-time fave Matsushima Nanako. But I figured that whoever Mia will be must be voluptuous. Hehe. So even if Takeuchi Yuko qualifies because of her mole, she’s too thin to be Mia. ^____^

Phoenix Wright – Next, for the role of Phoenix Wright, I chose Tsumabuki Satoshi (insert Pokemon theme here). Not sure if Dards will agree, though. But my live action version of Phoenix Wright has gone up the hotness meter, woohoo! See, the spiky hair shouldn’t be a prob, as shown in Tsumabuki-san’s pic. そっくりですよね!Also, he has played some dorky characters in the past and would do well as the brilliant, dorky young lawyer.

Phoenix Wright musical?? September 24, 2008

I didn’t know how to feel when I read about it in Tokyograph:

The all-female Takarazuka Revue is doing its first production based on a video game. The subject is Capcom’s popular “Gyakuten Saiban” series, also known as “Ace Attorney.” Tomu Ranju of the Cosmos Troupe is playing the protagonist, using the character’s English name Phoenix Wright instead of the Japanese name Ryuichi Naruhodo.

Set in the United States, the show will be a musical, incorporating songs from the games. Performances will run from February 5 to 15 in Takurazuka, Hyogo, then from February 24 to March 2 in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Article from Tokyograph. See the discussions at Japinoy.com

Somehow, I can’t imagine how a female can transform completely (and believably) into Phoenix Wright. And — gasp! Miles Edgeworth!! Do I hear an ‘OBJECTION!’ somewhere?? I knew (through Dardsie’s regular Gyakuten Saiban updates on Japinoy) that there are a lot of plans to bring GS from just being a game to more conventional media like anime/manga. But I never realized they are planning a musical, of all things!

I don’t know much about Takazaruka, only that they are quite good. I do hope they bring justice (for all, hehe) to the title ^_^
